- I can't get it to work either. So far I have determined that
- it is getting the IP number wrong/garbled, so I suspect that
- it was written to different 'rules' from Winsock 1.1; but this
- is just a guess.

- Harry.

-
- To All Winsock Users:
-
- I have uploaded the following half-dozen Internet training applications to
- WinFtp.CICA.Indiana.Edu. Their are currently in the "pub/pc/win3/uploads"
- directory, but I have recommended to the CICA archiver to move them to
- the "pub/pc/win3/winsock" directory. Although they are not Winsock apps
- per se, I figured anyone using Winsock is also interested in learning how
- to use the Internet itself. Enjoy!

-
- Ok, let's stop and think about this:
- - WinFSP and Trumpet both seem to work for other people.
-
- - WinFSP may have some reason (part of the protocol, perhaps)
- to need the NAME of your machine.
-
-
- Unfortunately, support for the gethostname() call from BSD was added to the
- Winsock spec late in the game, and is not very clearly documented in the PD
- Winsock help files. Probably, the WinFSP author knew this, and thought it
- would be more compatible if he did a gethostbyaddr() on your own machine's
- IP.
-
- Can you tell what answer he is getting back? In other words, is your
- machine correctly listed in a nameserver somewhere? Failing that,
- try adding your own machine to your hosts file. I don't know how trumpet
- works exactly, but there has to be a way to do that.
-
- Good luck,
- Heath
